I was blessed this weekend to be with my extended family at our annual family reunion in Greenville, South Carolina. We met up in Greenville, a city where we have no family roots, because we thought we could pull it off. At first it seemed like an odd choice for a host city since their was no actual host who lived there. (It's a big thing in black families to be hosted by someone with roots in the community.) But with great planning and 21st century technology, we were well taken care of. We had a great time in beautiful Greenville.
No matter where we went, we were complimented on being a blessing to those we came into contact with. From hotel staff to store clerks we blessed everyone with courtesy and kindness because that's just how we were raised.
We discovered that our roots aren't in a city; our roots are in our strong familial bonds. No matter where we are, as long as we are together, we stay rooted and connected to our source.
Isn't that how our heavenly Father wants us to feel? He may ask us to go many places where we may not know a soul. Sometimes we hesitate because we feel uncomfortable-who will be there to make us feel at home? And yet, when we share the love of Christ and connect with fellow believers our spirit is truly at home and rooted.
David said in Psalm 139:8 NKJV — "If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there."
What David knew was that the Host of Heaven is always already wherever we are being sent. He is there making provisions for the work He sends us to do. What we need to do is actively seek out our brothers and sisters wherever we are. Pray for Holy Spirit to reveal your Christian family to you for spiritual support. They are there, He is there and you will never be alone as long as you stay rooted and grounded to your source.
May God bless your family and knit you together more closely than ever.
